Born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1943, Roger Gowen enlisted in the US Navy in 1960 and served four years as an Airman. Ten years later, Roger enlisted in the US Army Reserve for six years, achieving Sergeant First Class. Roger spent more than 37 years in the aviation industry, retiring in 2002 from the Boeing Helicopter Company, Mesa, as a Quality Assurance Supervisor overseeing 36 inspectors. A Life Member of the VFW/Veterans of Foreign Wars, Roger has served veterans and their families in many capacities: Veterans Benefits Counselor; Service Officer; VFW Post 7968 Apache Junction Post Commander; District 10 Commander overseeing 8 posts; Department Commander, 2016- 2017; and fundraiser – $33,000. Still volunteering at the VA Southeast Clinic, VFW Headquarters, and VFW Post 7968, Roger Gowen has donated almost 10,000 hours and driven 55,000 miles.
