Biography

(1913-1997) Born in Detroit, transferred to Phoenix following discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps after WWII. Served 33 months, with all foreign service being in the Pacific Theater participating in the Guadalcanal, Guam, and Iwo Jima invasions. Present at the famous flag-raising at Mt. Suribachi. Active in the American Legion, the DAV, the VFW, and the Marine Corps League. Only person to ever hold the State Commander posts of both the American Legion and DAV. First director of Veterans Affairs for the State of Arizona, a position he held for 15 years. Elected to national president of the State Directors of Veterans Affairs in 1963. Was instrumental in establishing the Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
