Biography

Born in New York City, New York in 1924, Greg Melikian served in the U.S. Army, WWII, at Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force in France, where Greg distinguished himself as the communication specialist who broadcast the cessation of hostilities to the world on May 7, 1945. Greg was inducted as Chevalier (Knight) in the French Legion of Honor, and is the recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, and ASU’s Medal of Excellence and Philanthropist of the Year.  His real estate holdings include the historic Hotel San Carlos in Phoenix.  Around the world, Greg is known as the namesake and benefactor of ASU’s Melikian Center for Russian, Eurasian, and East European Studies where the Center’s Critical Languages Institute offers intensive language training.  Greg’s additional contributions include serving as President of the Arizona Opera, and Director, Phoenix Sister Cities Commission.
