Application Deadline for all AVHOFS Scholarships is February 15, 2025.
The AVHOFS Scholarship Mission seeks to acknowledge Patriotism, Youth and Education while serving Arizona veterans by recognizing permanent residents who are veterans attending institutions of higher learning in the State of Arizona, the Arizona Veterans Administration (VA) and Imprints of Honor (formerly Veterans Heritage Project) by providing financial Scholarships to students participating in their respective programs.
The Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame Society Scholarship: Applicants for the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame Society Scholarship must be honorably discharged veterans, family members of honorably discharged veterans, or currently serving members in good standing with a Reserve or Guard unit, and must be participating in a program leading to an Associates, Baccalaureate or Post Graduate Degree and attending an institution of higher learning, to include trade schools, within the state of Arizona, while living in the state of Arizona. The institution must be accredited and eligible to receive GI Bill funds through the Department of Veteran Affairs. AVHOFS scholarships are “unrestricted”, and funds will be issued directly to the selected recipients to use for any education related expense.
In partnership with the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) Department of Arizona, an additional scholarship was added to our program in 2023. Funded by MOPH and named in honor of U.S. Marine Corps Captain Robert J. Puskar, this $5,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to one veteran selected by the Society, utilizing the same eligibility criteria as the other AVHOFS scholarships awarded each year.
In 2024, the Society established the McDowell Scholarship which expanded the AVHOFS veteran scholarships available and added a scholarship to be given to the family member of an Arizona veteran. This was made possible by the very generous legacy gift provided to the Society by LTC (Ret) Edward McDowell and his wife, Diane. Ed, a Vietnam Veteran and US Army JAG Officer and Diane, a teacher and devoted Army wife, were passionate about helping veterans and their families get the education they needed to be successful.
