Biography

Born in Ladonia, Texas in 1950, Ronnie Smith served in the US Marine Corps, 1968-1970 including duty in Vietnam where his heroic action as a Reconnaissance Patrol Leader resulted in the Bronze Star and the Navy Commendation Medal, both with V for Valor. From 1985 to 1995, Ronnie volunteered to improve the Round Valley Riparian Area, Gila County; and the Hayfield Draw OHV/Off Highway Vehicle Area, Camp Verde. Ronnie has served three terms as Commander of DAV Chapter 36 in Coolidge where he helps disabled veterans file over 200 claims for benefits each year. Ronnie has led the effort to renovate not one but two fixer upper buildings in Coolidge; the second renovation happened when DAV Chapter 36 outgrew the first building, which is now a Veterans Museum. From 2016 to 2022, Ronnie Smith logged 10,986 volunteer DAV hours.
