Biography | Born in Centralia, Illinois in 1936, Bill Norwood served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force flying B-52 bombers during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He then had a 31-year career as a United Airlines pilot retiring as Captain on the DC-10. Bill co-founded the Organization of Black Airline Pilots and served as treasurer, president and board chair. He is a former president of the Archer-Ragsdale Arizona Chapter (ARAC), Tuskegee Airmen Incorporated. Bill is active in ARAC’s youth program where he serves as a mentor to the youngsters enrolled in the Chapter’s Aerospace Career Education (ACE) Academy program which inspires youth to learn about and consider military and aviation-oriented careers. Bill Norwood continues to support the Diana Gregory Foundation “Veggies for Veterans” project which helps homeless Arizona veterans receive fresh fruits, vegetables, and nutrition education. |
