Biography

Born in Casa Grande, Arizona in 1985, Marcus Brown served 4 years in the US Marine Corps including deployment to Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom; he earned the rank of Corporal. As a police sergeant, City of Mesa, AZ Police Department, Marcus observed that many veterans needed assistance after 5 pm and on weekends when government agencies were closed. Building on his experience as a member of the Marine Corps League where he organized homeless veteran outreach projects, developed partnerships, and raised funds, Marcus created Veterans 5-9, an IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, to provide rapid resolution, whatever the emergency or issue: hunger, emergency shelter, an eviction notice, etc. Marcus partners with other nonprofit organizations which provide community services. Since February 2020, Marcus Brown has assisted over 580 veterans and their families.
