Biography | (1926-2016) Born in Clermont, Iowa in 1926. Served in the U.S. Army during World War II, 1944 to 1946. Elected to Mesa City Council in 1972, subsequently elected as Vice-Mayor in 1974 and Mayor, 1980-1984. Elected to Arizona State Legislature representing District 29, 1986-1990. Past president of many organizations including Mesa Rotary Club, Mesa United Way, Mesa Convention and Visitors Bureau, Mesa Southwest Museum Foundation, Arizonans for Cultural Development, and the Mesa Sister City Organization, which he founded as Mayor. Served as chairman, Mesa Planning and Zoning Commission, and as co-chair of Mesa Citizens for Responsible Public Policy. Past treasurer of Maricopa Association of Governments. Active in CARE (Commerce, Arts, Recreation and Entertainment) and Centennial Village, a non-profit agency providing housing for the elderly. Board member of Central Arizona Water Conservation. Member of American Legion and VFW. |
