Biography

Born in Morton, Mississippi in 1946, Billy Ward served in US Army Communications from 1967-1970 with combat service in Vietnam.  Billy is a retired Chief Substation Operator, Bonneville Power Administration, Portland, Oregon.  A survivor diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2004, Billy and his family moved back to Arizona in 2010.  Having grown up in McNary on the White Mountain Apache Reservation, Billy is focused on improving cancer education and support among Native Americans, particularly men’s cancer and health issues.  Billy is a valuable resource to Native American veterans, dependents, and survivors in underserved communities on tribal reservations.  Billy Ward is a community activist whose network includes the Mayo Clinic Native Research Council and Prostate Cancer Network, the Native American Sustainability for Veterans and Those in Uniform, the Veterans Medical Leadership Council, and the Partnership for Native American Cancer Prevention.
