Biography

(1926-2022) Asa Herring was born in Dunn, NC and began active duty in 1944 as a Tuskegee Aviation Cadet. WWII ended before he graduated, and he was honorably discharged. Asa spent the next four years in aviation training and rejoined the US Air Force in 1949. He spent twenty-two years serving throughout the US, England, Germany, Korea, and Vietnam with 350 combat missions. He finished as the commander of a fighter squadron at Luke AFB, AZ and retired in 1970 as a Lieutenant Colonel. Asa’s civilian career included several management positions at AT&T/Western Electric Company before retiring in 1989. Later, Asa Herring focused on creating opportunities for youth and preserving the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen as co-founder of the Aerospace Career Education Academy and the Archer-Ragsdale Arizona Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen Incorporated.
