Biography

(1936-1999). Born in Louisa, Kentucky. Served in the U.S. Army from 1958 until 1988. Retired as Colonel with 999 combat flying hours in Vietnam. An honorary Kentucky Colonel, he became a resident of Arizona in 1988. Active in Masonic Lodge, American Legion, The Retired Officers Association, and the Distinguished Flying Cross Society. Served at all levels of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, including National Commander. Appointed Commissioner of Arizona Department of Veterans Affairs by Governor Symington, later becoming Chairman of the Commission. He was on the Dean’s Committee for the Tucson VA Medical Center and University Hospital, the only non-physician on the committee. Served on both Senator McCain’s and Representative Kolbe’s veterans advisory councils. Worked tirelessly with state and federal agencies and veterans organizations on the site selection and eventual establishment of the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista.
