AVHOF Induction
As you can see, it is an event full of excitement and an opportunity to participate in the induction of fourteen extraordinary veterans who will be joining you as members of the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame and your Society.
While Registration for the Induction has officially closed, I have it on good authority that a few seats are still available. If you have not yet registered, please jump online right away and do so. Call me directly of you have any problems registering: 480-363-0044. And do not forget the Reception earlier that day. Registration for the Reception opens at 0700 and the continental breakfast begins at 0730. All Society members are invited. I am looking forward to a large turnout of Society members.
We are working on two new programs:
VA Medical Center Recognition...
This program is intended to recognize and reward select workers at the VA medical center. Specifics of the program are now being formulated by a committee consisting of Karen Craig, Pat Little-Upah, Peter Kloeber and Ron Perkins. Please contact one of these committee members if you have suggestions or would like to participate in planning. The intent is to launch this program in Phoenix, Prescott and Tucson in early 2023.
Veterans Home Outreach Program...
Christeen Verchot is heading up initial planning for this program which is initially defined as follows:
Proposal: Develop a program to outreach to Veterans residing in the Arizona Veterans Home. At this moment, there are 73 men and 5 women. The average age is 65. Most of them have a memory loss issue.
Purpose: Provide a sense of comradery to those Veterans residing in the Arizona Veterans Home.
Plan: Host events that will bring a sense of belonging as well as inform/update residents on Military Services
Sponsor Home Events (Bingo, Educational, Musical, etc.)
Sponsor Community Events (Ball games, Ballet, Renaissance Fair, etc.)
Sponsor Vets with no family or visitors
Provide items for Lending Closet
Our goal is to begin this program in early 2023 with the initial implementation at the Arizona State Veteran Home – Phoenix. If the program is well received and successful, we would expand it to other Veteran Homes in the state. Please contact Christeen with any suggestions you have. I am sure she would be glad to have your input and participation.
As a last item, please mark your calendars for the Annual Business Meeting scheduled for January 11, 2023. More details on this will be forthcoming over the next few months.
