February has been a fairly quiet month for the Society.  One high point is the installation of Nancy Fassbender, class of 2020, as Society Secretary for  2021-2022.  Welcome Nancy, we are pleased to have you on board; so pleased you chose to get involved right away.

Patriotic Awards Luncheon:
Planning for the Patriotic Awards Luncheon is well underway with Ron Perkins and Pat Little-Upah at the helm.  See more details on the PAL in Ron’s Notes.

2020 Class Induction:
Planning continues for the induction of the 2020 class.  Tentative plans are to conduct individual inductions for each class member in mid to late May.  The individual inductions are being held in Flagstaff, Tucson and Phoenix.  Specifics are still being worked out.  I will provide details as they become available.

March Board of Directors meeting / Society introduction to the 2020 Class:
We all know the 2020 class is not receiving the ceremony all the rest of us had experienced.  This is very unfortunate, but like so many other things these days, the induction was radically impacted by Covid limitations.  As I stated in last month’s post, the 2020 class members are now full members of the Society and we must make an effort to introduce the Society and its workings to these new members.  To that end, I am personally inviting the 2020 class to take part in the March Board of Directors meeting.

This meeting will have special presentations:

History of the AVHOFS  Charles Schluter, Past President
MOMS Program  Kathleen Laurier, Director & Program Chair
Be Connected   Kelly Ann Wilde, Be Connected Assistant Dir.
Public Relations Glenn Hohman, Program Chair
Veterans Court   Sam Young, Program Chair
Get Involved     Nancy Fassbender, 2020 Class & Society Secretary

TREASURER'S NOTES

Jerry Wojtas
AVHOFS Treasurer
Class of 2011

While we always push to have members contribute to our Century Club, I want to point out that there are other Society programs which would welcome your support.  Our Veterans’ Court program continues to grow.  In fact, a Veterans’ Court just opened in Peoria to serve the west valley.  And our second year of our MOMS program is growing and gaining in popularity.

And please remember that if you hear of a program that you think is deserving of our support, bring it to the attention of one of our board members.  We’ll ‘run it up the flagpole’ as we say and see if it meets the requirements for the Society to give it our support.

As we go to press, the month of February has produced $1,500 in membership support for our Century Club.  Amazon Smile continues to be an important contributor to our Scholarship Fund.  If you haven’t done so, please consider using Amazon Smile whenever you purchase products from Amazon.

PERSONAL INTEREST STORY

Fred Ferguson, Medal of Honor recipient and member of the AVHOF class 2001, and Ann Ferguson, AVHOF class 2013, are the only husband and wife couple to both be inducted into the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame.  They just had granddaughter Lotus added to their family.  Pretty cute baby, don’t you agree?  And a great story.

NOTE:  While we are do not normally post events like this, we felt the situation was quite unusual and our members might appreciate the uniqueness of these circumstances.
