Biography

Born in Chanute, Kansas in 1946.  Served active duty in the US Army from 1965-1968, as a stenographer/legal clerk, attaining the rank of Specialist 5.  For almost 40 years, Shirley’s volunteer work has focused on special needs children and veterans.  An active member of the Women’s Army Corps Veterans’ Association (WACVA) Saguaro Chapter 68, Shirley has served for 10 years in leadership roles including Chapter President, Newsletter Editor, Sergeant-at-Arms, and a member of the Color Guard.  Shirley has also been an active member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 1011 for 3 years and a member of the Color Guard.  Additional involvement in the veteran community includes:  the Chandler Veterans Expo (5 years), the Arizona State Fair Veterans Booth (5 years), the Arizona Military Women’s Luncheon (8 years), and the Arizona StandDown.
