Biography

(1927-2005) Born in Maine. Prepared for WWII but missed the draft due to medical problems later corrected. Entered U.S. Army in 1952 from his civilian employment at the Grand Canyon. Served in combat in Korea, his unit earning the Presidential Unit Citation. Discharged in 1955. Completed Master’s Degree in Education with highest distinction in 1959 from Arizona State University. Recognized for service as Province Chairman of Arizona-New Mexico Catholic Students in Public Universities with the John Henry Cardinal Newman Award. Served as Legislative Chairman for Arizona School Administrators; Chairman of Westside United Fund; President of the local Arizona Association of School Retirees; and as Glendale Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year. Has served almost 40 years in the American Legion, holding virtually every position including Arizona Department Commander in 1969-70. Continues to serve the Legion in various local, state, and national capacities, as well as the Unified Arizona Veterans, the Arizona State Veterans Home, and the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
