Cited for action on 26 August 1968 in the Republic of Vietnam. In the face of intense enemy fire, squad leader Bacon took charge of two decimated platoons, personally destroying a hostile bunker with grenades, an enemy gun crew in a single-handed effort, and an antitank weapon. Despite heavy fire, he directed fire into the enemy position from the exposed deck of a tank until several wounded comrades were evacuated. |
