Biography

(1947–2008) Born in Taft, California. Enlisted in US Army in 1968. Served in Vietnam, discharged in 1978 with rank of Staff Sergeant. Began employment in commercial landscaping, but took special pride in civic and volunteer activities. Spent eleven years with Pointman Ministries, helping families dealing with the effects of war. Operated Dick’s Family Kitchen, preparing meals for veteran’s Standdowns, Run for the Wall, Vietnam Remembrance Day and the All Veterans Picnic. Distributed blankets to homeless veterans in winter, provided transportation to the VA Hospital, and housed homeless in his home. Following Hurricane Katrina, gathered donations and went to Mississippi for three months, feeding as many as 1,200 people in a single weekend. Named Volunteer of the Year by D’Iberville, Mississippi Mayor Rusty Quave. Past President of Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 432; member of American Legion.
