Biography

(1934-2011) Born in Leon, Iowa in 1934. Served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. Resident of Arizona since 1981, she became the first female commander of American Legion Post 109 in 2001. Assists numerous veterans and their families in the area with obtaining VA benefits and other entitlements. Distributed “What is a Veteran” videotapes and Pledge of Allegiance bookmarkers to local school children. Works tirelessly securing petition signatures for the flag protection amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Organized Post Junior Girls program to teach patriotism and Americanism while providing a social experience for young ladies. Awarded Female Veteran of the Year in 2000 for Tucson Area 1 by the Southern Arizona Veterans Administration Health Care Association where she has volunteered nearly 1,000 hours of service. Active member of the Spanish Trail Lutheran Church and its Altar Guild and Christ Care self-help group.
