Biography

(1916-2003) Born in Kansas; graduated from Kansas State College in 1938 and Harvard Law School in 1941. After serving nearly five years in the U.S. Army during WWII, settled in Mesa and began the practice of law. Active in civic and fraternal circles, was elected to Congress in November 1952. Continuously reelected through November 1980, serving the citizens of Arizona. Upon the resignation of Gerald R. Ford as minority leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, was elected to that position. Voluntarily retired in January 1983. Continued to serve his Arizona public in many areas
