Biography

(1942-2022) Born in Evanston, Illinois in 1942, former US Congressman Jim Kolbe served twelve years in the US Navy, including one year in the Republic of Vietnam with the Swift Boats. Returning home to Tucson, Jim served three terms in the Arizona State Senate, followed by 22 years (1985-2007) as Congressman for Arizona’s 5th District, and, due to re-districting, Arizona’s 8th District. While in Congress, Jim served on the influential House Appropriations and House Budget Committees, and chaired the House Foreign Operations, Export Financing, and Related Agencies Subcommittee, among others. Since leaving Congress, Jim continues to serve the United States and Arizona as a Senior Transatlantic Fellow for the German Marshall Fund and Board Member of the Institute for Science and Global Policy and the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.
