Biography

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1945. Enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1964, Doc Dougherty mastered parachute assembly and maintenance skills and air delivery systems employed worldwide by U.S. and Allied units. Honorably discharged in 1967 as an Army Specialist, Doc has been a founding charter member and member of the board of four local organizations dedicated to recognizing the contributions and preserving the rich history and traditions of Arizona soldiers and units who served in Airborne status. He had a key role in raising more than $30,000 to fund scholarships for ROTC cadets and veterans at Arizona’s three major universities. Doc Dougherty has been recognized by leaders in Arizona for his contributions which resulted in a National Cemetery being established in southern Arizona.
