Biography

(1928-2003) Born in 1928 and entered U.S. Army from Shreveport, Louisiana, in 1946. Retired in 1978 with rank of Colonel after more than 32 years of service. Assisted in organizing only Arizona chapter of the National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA). Member of Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW); The Retired Officers Association (TROA); the VFW; the DAV. Also member of the Masonic Order, Scottish Rite and Shrine, and Elks Lodge 335 in Phoenix. Activity in the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) over 24 years included President of the Arizona Territorial Chapter for two years, State President and, ultimately, a member of the National Council of Trustees in Washington, D.C. Involved in creating the ROTC Scholarship Assistance Fund and co-founded the AUSA/ROTC “Task Force Smith” annual golf tournament for the ROTC program. Active in local Church and Junior Achievement programs.
