Biography

(1923-2012) Born in La Grange, Illinois in 1923. U.S. Army Veteran. Formerly Public Safety Commissioner (1962-1968) and Mayor (1968-1969) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Served as Executive Director, Valley Forward Association in Phoenix from 1969-1976 where he lobbied with the Dean of the College of Architecture, ASU, for support of the Rio Salado Project. Implemented Project “Pool It” to encourage car-pooling. Oversaw establishment of many community beautification projects, once providing a guided tour of such for Lady Bird Johnson. Served on Military Affairs Committee of Phoenix Chamber of Commerce where he led project to renovate Pioneer Cemetery in downtown Phoenix. Helped develop concept for Arizona’s Capitol Mall. Served in numerous capacities for Prescott Valley, including chairman of the Prescott Valley Planning Commission and Prescott Valley Voters Association; and member of Yavapai County Blue Ribbon Committee and Habitat for Humanity.
