Biography

(1930-2018) Born in West Braddock, Pennsylvania in 1930.  Entered U.S. Army in 1953, served in Korea and Vietnam, retired 1975 with rank of Staff Sergeant.  While stationed in Korea, helped local citizens divert water during drought; received commendation from Pyongtaek County Governor.  Continued volunteer work with Volunteer Fire Department, Planning and Zoning Board, Senior Center, and Police Volunteer Patrol.  Served on Huachuca City Town Council.  Active in Red Cross, and 28-year volunteer at Tucson VA Medical Center.  Active member of VFW, NCOA, AMVETS, DAV, and NAACP.  First recipient of Huachuca City Citizen of the Year award which has been renamed the Elmer Urda Award.  Active in Lions, Knights of Columbus, Boys and Girls Clubs, City Library, and St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Sierra Vista.
