Biography

(1930-2019) Born in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1930. Served in combat in Korea with the 2nd Infantry Division. Chinese Communist Prisoner of War for 33 months. Retired from U.S. Army and Army National Guard with 23 years in 1974. Noted historian and author of three books about Korean War POWs. Received Freedom, Faith and Family Award at an “America Come Together” dinner sponsored by the Washington Times newspaper. Taught 31 years in Mesa Schools retiring in 1989. Developed and gives a presentation entitled “Freedom Is Not Free” to local area schools. Conducts annual flag raising and memorial ceremony to commemorate Memorial Day. Awarded Spirit of Mesa Neighborhood Award. Serves on City of Mesa Constitution Celebration Committee and volunteers services one day a week as production supervisor in preparing food products for needy people in the Phoenix area. Continues service with church and various community and charitable activities.
