Biography

Born in Washington, D.C. in 1972, Toni Grimes served in the U.S. Army Public Affairs, Engineers, and Medical for over nineteen years, including tours of duty in the Republic of Korea and Afghanistan. Diagnosed with lupus, Toni medically retired in 2011, and is a tireless spokesperson for the nonprofit Lupus Foundation of America, spreading lupus awareness to veterans and the public, and leading support groups. In 2012 Toni organized, and continues to chair, the annual Walk to End Lupus Now, an event that raises funds for lupus awareness. From 2013 to the present, Toni is a peer mentor for Wounded Warrior Project providing support and encouragement to female wounded warriors. From 2017 to the present, Toni serves on the Mayor of Phoenix Commission on Disability Issues, which coordinates the Commission’s Employment, Education, and Training Grant Program.
